Upgrade Essentials

Learn about the upgrade essentials such as timing and other details about the upgrade process.

Is this upgrade mandatory?

Yes, if you're an Illumio SaaS customer, you will be upgraded automatically. You will receive email notifications at least 30 days before the upgrade. After the upgrade completes, you will be on the latest version of the Illumio Console.

How will I know when I am getting upgraded?

You'll receive a notification from Illumio at least 30 days in advance of the upgrade.

I'm an Illumio SaaS customer. What happens if I do nothing?

You will be upgraded automatically. You can verify the upgrade succeeded if you find the Cloud menu in the left navigation pane and if all of your resources display in the map.

How long will the upgrade take?

You will be notified about the duration of the upgrade before the upgrade happens. The notification will include the expected maintenance window.

Do I need to back up my environment before the upgrade?

No. Illumio performs a full backup of your configuration and logs before the upgrade.

Policies
What do I need to change in my policies?

There are no required changes for your policies during the upgrade to Illumio Console. The changes apply automatically and take effect immediately, ensuring continuity in enforcement without additional configuration. This keeps policy rules and configurations consistent and operational, ensuring ongoing security and segmentation.

VENs, NENs, PCE
What do I need to change in my VENs?

Existing Virtual Enforcement Nodes (VENs) do not require any modifications as part of the upgrade to Illumio Console, ensuring a seamless transition without the need for adjustments. This allows for the continued protection and visibility provided by VENs in your network.

What do I need to change in my PCE?

No alterations are needed in the Policy Compute Engine (PCE) during the upgrade. This ensures that your policy enforcement remains consistent and effective post-upgrade.

What do I need to change in my NENs?

Existing Network Enforcement Nodes (NENs) do not require any modifications as part of the upgrade to Illumio console. They will continue to provide visualization capabilities to agentless workloads via the network.

Traffic Data and Audit Events
What happens to my traffic data?

During the upgrade, traffic flow data remains unaffected. All existing traffic telemetry and visibility features continue to operate without interruption, ensuring there is no impact on real-time monitoring, enforcement, or historical data collection.

What happens to my audit events?

Your audit events will persist without any need for intervention, ensuring that all existing data remains intact and accessible following the upgrade. This allows for historical tracking and compliance monitoring to continue seamlessly.

Login and user information
Will my login URL change?

Yes, you will be redirected to https://console.illum.io

What happens to my current configured local users who log in using their user name/password only?

Existing local user logins will continue to work. SAML support will remain available after the upgrade.

What additional options will be available to authenticate users?

Illumio Console supports the use of OIDC for Single Sign-On and passkeys for local user authentication.

Will there be any downtime during the upgrade when I can't access my tenant to make configuration changes?

Yes, during the maintenance window. You will be notified of the downtime at least 30 days in advance.

After the upgrade

Are audit logs preserved during the upgrade?

Yes. All audit events and historical data remain intact and fully accessible after the upgrade.

Will custom rules or labels be affected?

No. Existing policies, labels, and custom configurations are preserved.
