Labeling Rules for Cloud
Note
Labeling Rules for Cloud is provided in addition to these other rule labeling features in Cloud: Tag-to-Label Mapping and AI Labeling.
Labeling Rules for Cloud allow you to apply labels to one or more cloud resources when their attributes match the conditions you specify in easily configurable rules. This simplifies the task of labeling multiple cloud resources.
Key Features of Labeling Rules
Easily create rules that apply labels in bulk to specific resources identified in your cloud environment.
Create labels. This is useful when the rule you're creating requires a label that doesn't already exist in your Illumio tenant.
You can export a CSV report that details the cloud resources that match your rules and the label(s) applied to those cloud resources. Reviewing the report is helpful when dealing with a large number of rules and cloud resources.
Before You Use Labeling Rules
You can apply user-defined labels to matching cloud resources. (Applying System Generated labels is not supported.)
You can apply only one label of a given label type to a cloud resource.
Applying labels to matching resources is "all or none." This means that when you are reviewing matching resources on the slide-out panel, you can't selectively apply labels to only a subset of those resources.
Depending on how many cloud resources match labeling rules, it may take a few minutes for the labels to be applied to all of them.
To remove a label from a cloud resource after the rule is deleted, you can use API-based workflows, available upon request.
Typical Labeling Rule Workflow
Here is a typical workflow for adding rules, launching a search for matching cloud resources, and applying labels.
Step 1: Add a Labeling Rule and/or Create a New Application
Use the Add a Label Rule workflow to:
Create rules that identify the cloud resources in your environment and the labels you want to apply to them.
Create labels. This is useful when the rule you're creating requires a label that doesn't already exist in your Illumio tenant. When you create an Application label in this way, the label also appears on the Applications page (Cloud > Explore > Applications).
Step 2: Review matches and apply labels to cloud resources
After adding labeling rules, let the Labeling Rule feature search your environment for cloud resources that match the rule conditions. Then review the generated list of matching cloud resources. Mouse-over matching resources for more information. Click Details to open a new tab in the slide-out.
