Illumio Core 25.2.10 Install, Configure, Upgrade (On-Prem)

Custom Migration Overview

Illumio provides the pcemigrate tool to help you migrate from the on-premise (on-prem) PCE to the SaaS PCE.

This guide describes how to use this tool to migrate, the steps involved, and the limitations.

Caution

This migration requires collaboration with Illumio.

In this migration, bulk VEN transplant is used. This eliminates the need to unpair and repair.

Note

Illumio supports a 10,000 limit of VENs to migrate per transplant.

Using the pcemigrate Tool

The pcemigrate tool provides the following functionality.

  • The tool orchestrates the initial replication of policy objects and some selected management objects from the on-premises PCE to the Illumio SaaS instance.

  • It migrates VENs in batches from the on-prem PCE to the Illumio Cloud instance.

  • It synchronizes policy changes and workload changes between the on-prem PCE and Illumio Cloud during the VEN migration.

You can run the pcemigrate tool on a Linux, Windows, or macOS machine (recommended by Illumio). You must be able to access both the on-prem PCE and SaaS from the machine using the Illumio public API.

  • Each sync generates 2GB of data. Illumio recommends that you have at least 1TB of disk space.

  • You must have a minimum of 2 CPUs. If you have more than 2 CPUs, you will be better able to parallelize tasks and improve performance.

  • You must have a minimum of 16 GB of RAM. If you have more RAM, you'll see improved performance.

Important

Illumio recommends running the pcemigrate tool on a separate machine. However, you can run pcemigrate directly from the on-prem PCE if you can access SaaS from it.

Warning

The pcemigrate sync may fail to provision policy objects on the SaaS PCE if their content has not actually changed.

The update can be triggered by the object being provisioned on on-prem, or by the absence of a map file or an empty map file when there are objects on on-prem.
